Observing Log @ LRO 11/9/2024@ 21:53-22:10 (British Summer Time)
[11/09, 21:53] Andrew Thornett: For 1st time in long time I am outsode with my telescope! Tonight the Dobo for visual as I think need to take it easy – only 6 weeks post knee replacement surgery and I’m still getting lot of pain. However wonderful to be out under stars again! Radio astronomy is great but feeling the breeze seeing the stars.with my own eyes – that is what it is really about! Andy
[11/09, 22:10] Andrew Thornett: M31, M32 and faintly but by direct vision M101 seen to get me started! I’m using 10 inch UK Orion Dobsonian telescope with 20mm hyperwide (100 degree apparent field of view) eyepiece and sometimes adding in 2x Barlow. This initial observation without Barlow. Seeing is good for my location tonight. Sky was clear but as writing this cloud rolling in. Oops! Following gaps in cloud, lovely view of M57 Ring Nebula in Lyra – on both above targets adding in (quite good) Barlow enlarged object but little extra detail = possibly because of faint cloud?
[11/09, 22:10] Andrew Thornett: Ahh!! Raindrops! Pack up VRRY quickly – knee problems or no knee problems = turns out I cam now shift my gear very quickly again when I need to! This is the UK for you – one second sky entirely clear and seeing wonderful with great clarity……next = cloud and rain!!! Andy
